The Central Pacific Railroad Passenger Station is a re-creation of Sacramento's 1876 depot. Several vintage locomotives and railroad cars are on display. Stop by and learn what train travel was like in the late 19th century. Between April and September you can take advantage of the Sacramento Southern Railroad Excursions. Climb aboard a train of vintage passenger coaches and open-air gondolas pulled by a real steam locomotive. The six-mile, 40-minute round-trip follows the Sacramento River.

Tour the Governor’s Mansion and find out how the politicians of the early 1900s lived. Built in 1877 for Albert Gallatin as a private home, it later housed 13 of California's governors from 1903 to 1967. Guided tours are given daily on the hour.

California Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The California Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located at the east end of Capitol Park. The $2.5 million project was built entirely by donations. The 22 shiny black granite panels memorialize 5,822 names of California's dead and missing. Also emotionally moving are the full-relief bronze figures that depict the realities of daily life during the Vietnam War.

Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament

The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is located on 11th Street and is truly a sight to behold. It was built in 1889 and contains stained glass imported from Austria. Its architectural design is 19th-century Paris.

The district has a Gold Rush-era ambiance and offers 125 shops and restaurants. The California State Railroad Museum is housed within a 100,000-square-foot facility, making it the largest rail museum in North America. It features 21 locomotives and railroad cars and 46 exhibits. Visitors can experience all aspects of the railroad throughout its history in this enormous museum.

The Towe Auto Museum features more than 100 cars, including a 1931 Chrysler, a 1960 Lotus, and a bullet-proof Cadillac limousine once used by the U.S. State Department. A 1920s roadside cafe and garage exhibit complete the museum.
